GFA will decide way forward for 2019/20 season soon – Kurt Okraku

The President of Ghana Football Association,  Kurt Okraku, says the association will soon decide the fate of the local league after gathering some protocol guidelines from his engagement with his counterparts from Europe.

“Personally I have been engaging the Bundesliga directly; I have taken custody of their protocol guidelines. I have engaged managers of the premier league in the Czech Republic, and I have also engaged the managers of the Danish super league.

“I have handed all these documents to the medical committee. They are the experts, they will look at it and with their enormous experience, I am sure they will put together a document for us to consider. I assure you that we will consider all options available to make a good decision,” he stated

According to Mr Okraku, the FA is considering scenarios to make a better decision on the league.

“I am working closely with the medical committee, headed by the very experienced Dr Baba, Dr Percy and Dr. Kofi Abbro. The medical team is taking into considerations all scenarios possible to truncate, cancel or continue the league and then advise us on the decision to take and once we get the advice we will communicate to the Sports ministry.”

This is the second time in a row that the Premier League in Ghana has suffered a hold-up, with the first being the discontinuation of the 2018/19 season, due to release of an exposé by Tiger Eye PI led by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw.

The investigation titled “Number 12” exposed some officials of the FA engaged in bribery and match-fixing allegations.

Sporting activities across the globe, including Ghana, were suspended in March following the spread of the coronavirus pandemic around the world.

An announcement by GFA administration to extend the suspension until June 30, has raised diverse opinions from the football fraternity. With some calling for its cancellation,  while others support the continuation of the league despite the existence of the virus.
