GFA reveals cancelled season cost over $2.2 million
The recent cancellation of the 2019/20 football season in Ghana has cost the FA, $2.2million.
Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante Twum disclosed the cost of the decision to end the 2019/20 season.
On Tuesday, the Executive Council of the Ghana FA cancelled the 2019/20 campaign amid the coronavirus crisis which has has halted football activities in the Ghana since March.
“MTN made 1.1 million Ghana Cedis investment in the FA Cup so far. 800,000 cedis in cash and 300,000 cedis in products. StarTimes would have invested a little in excess of one million Ghana cedis of which they have paid some,” Asante told Angel FM in Accra.
“The projections from NASCO for their products is estimated at $1.1,”Mr. Asante said.
“The football association spent at least Gh¢6,000 on every match day. This money went into paying referees, cameramen and Venue Media Officers.”
The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce the date for the start of 2020/21 football season soon.
