GFA President Kurt Okraku has delivered a strong warning to betting companies in Ghana, declaring that none have been licensed to provide betting odds for Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.
Mr Okraku warned that the GFA’s legal team will soon take action against companies that persist in offering GPL matches for betting, in a bid to tackle match-fixing concerns that plagued the league last season due to questionable match outcomes.
This decisive move aims to curb unauthorized betting on GPL matches and restore integrity to the league.
Speaking at the 30th Ordinary Congress in Prampram, Okraku said, “We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games.”
“We are going to empower our legal department to confront this issue head-on. It is not okay for betting companies to feed on our football.”
The GFA President, Kurt Okraku, emphasized that the association is willing to collaborate with betting companies, but only if they adhere to the required regulations and obtain proper authorization before including GPL matches in their betting markets.
Okraku’s administration has taken a firm stance against match-fixing, as demonstrated by the demotion of Inter Allies and the indefinite suspension of AshantiGold, both of which were involved in match manipulation.
The 30th Ordinary Congress not only addressed this issue but also marked the beginning of the countdown to the new Ghana Premier League season, set to kick off on September 6.
