Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has confessed that the GFA Executive Committee (EXCO) was split on Otto Addo continuing as head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars- after Ghana failed to qualify to compete in the 2025 AFCON.

The 2025 AFCON will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, with 24 nations set to compete for the title; Cote D’Ivoire are the defending champions.

Ghana failed to win a game in six 2025 AFCON qualifiers under Otto Addo which led to the Black Stars missing out on the continental championship for the first time in 20 years.

Angola and Sudan, who beat Ghana en route to securing places in the 2025 AFCON, were drawn in Group B and E.

The GFA recently decided to keep Otto Addo in his role after reviewing his technical report and in an interview with Sporty FM, Henry Asante Twum stated that members of the GFA’s top decision-making body were split on the decision.

“The Executive Council meeting on Otto Addo’s future dragged on for hours. Some wanted him sacked and at a point there was a stalemate but ultimately a decision was reached to keep him.”
