In a strong display of solidarity and support, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, paid a visit today to referee Mohammed Sakina Nasara who recently fell victim to a distressing incident of assault by a coach.

Standing firmly against such unacceptable behavior, Okraku took it upon himself to personally meet with the referee, offering words of encouragement and reaffirming the GFA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of all officials in the game.

Coach Iddrisu Napari, accused of assaulting referee Mohammed Sakina Nasara during a recent match, has been remanded in prison custody by the Tamale Magistrate Court.

Napari will go back to court on Monday 26th June, 2023 according to reports in the local media.

Coach Iddrisu S. Napari of Tiyumba Ladies was arrested by the police in Tamale following allegations of assault against a female referee during a Northern Region Division Two League game.

The incident took place at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium annex 3, and disturbing pictures of the assaulted referee, Mohammed Sakina Nasara, have circulated online.

After eluding authorities after the assault, Coach Napari voluntarily turned himself in at a local police station on Monday afternoon. His decision to report to the police came after he was declared wanted in connection with the assault.

Both the Ghana Football Association and its Northern Regional wing have joined forces with law enforcement to ensure that the coach faces prosecution and appropriate sanctions.

In response to the incident, Coach Napari has been relieved of his position as the chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee of the Sagnarigu Municipal Football Association.

Referee Sakina, who suffered injuries as a result of the assault, was admitted to the Tamale Technical University hospital for medical treatment.

However, she has since been discharged, although she continues to experience pain as a result of the senseless attack.
