GFA bans Asante Kotoko winger Emmanuel Gyamfi

Asante Kotoko SC forward Emmanuel Gyamfi has been handed a one-match ban and a fine of Gh¢1,000 following his misconduct in the league game against Inter Allies FC.

Gyamfi was charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. A playback of the match footage showed Gyamfi stamping a foot on Inter Allies’ player Andy Okpe during a Premier League game at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

According to the Disciplinary Committee of the FA, he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The ban of the deputy captain of the Porcupine Warriors means he will miss Matchday 33 of the Premiership match against Bechem United on Sunday 11 July 2021 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko SC head coach Mariano Barreto Jeronimo has decided to not continue as head coach of the Porcupine Warriors when the league comes to an end, Nhyira FM has reported.

The former Black Stars coach was appointed in March 2021 to replace Maxwell Konadu who was sacked in December 2020 over an unimpressive performance after just five matches into the season.

The Portuguese trainer has been under serious pressure after losing 1-0 to bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in the matchday 31 fixture of 2020/21 season, a match that handed Hearts an advantage to clinch the premiership title.
