GES summons Teacher Kwadwo over alleged misconduct
The Disciplinary Committee of the Akrofuom District Education Directorate has summoned Michael Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo over an alleged ‘professional misconduct”.
The alleged misconduct is yet to be communicated to the media but the comedian cum teacher has in the past few days been critical of the Ghana Education Service (GES) over the non-availability of textbooks on the new curriculum to public school teachers.
“GES has approved the books but is yet to supply government schools with copies after two years meanwhile, the private schools are buying them, and these pupils will at the end of the day write the same paper, GES is the most confused, inconsistent institution in Ghana,” he stressed.
Venting his anger, the teacher revealed, “GES has changed the school curriculum twice since I joined the service”, yet he is compelled to spend his meagre salary on textbooks to teach children.
“Initially, we hand wrote our lesson notes, then the curriculum was changed, and we had to download the lesson notes online, but we are back to handwriting the notes after the second change, which is a retrogression,” he lamented.
“We have had a new curriculum for the past two years without textbooks, yet the school has been running, so tell me which textbooks are the teachers using to teach,” he quizzed in an earlier interview with YouTuber Zionflex monitored by theghanareport.com
According to the invitation letter served him, he is to appear before the committee on Tuesday, August 10 at Akrofuom District Assembly Hall at 11:00 am.
Reacting to the summons in a video, the teacher said “I have been summoned before the elders but because I was raised to be brave and never afraid to speak the truth, I will honor the invitation” he noted.
