The Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated an administrative investigation into the stabbing incident at O’Reilly Senior High School.
This comes as the Ghana Police Service also conducts a criminal investigation into the incident.
In response, the GES announced on Wednesday, September 4, that it is conducting an internal review of the incident.
The Director General of the GES, Eric Nkansah, visited the school and Sackey’s family to offer condolences.
“The Ghana Education Service (GES) is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that resulted in the loss of Master Edward Sackey,” said the GES in a statement. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire school community.”
The GES stated that it aims to complete its internal investigation within two weeks.
The service assured that calm has been restored at the school and that measures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
The GES also urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigations to proceed without interference.
“We urge the public to refrain from speculations and let the investigative processes unfold. Updates will be provided as necessary,” the statement concluded.
