GAUA suspends nationwide strike

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has suspended its weeks-long nationwide strike.

According to the administrators, this is to allow for further engagement with the government on their outstanding conditions of service.

“All members of the Association are, therefore, to resume work from Monday, October 14, 2024,” a statement from leadership said.

It added that the “government will demonstrate good faith and arrange for deliberations within 3 weeks, over the issues included in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 7, 2024”.

GAUA has expressed concern about delays in granting approval by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for the implementation of negotiated conditions of service for its members.

GAUA noted that though agreements have been reached over the payment of fuel and fuel-related allowances, sanitation and security allowances, it has taken months for the MoF to grant the necessary approval for the payment of these allowances.

They, therefore, embarked on strike on September 18, 2024, bringing many universities to a standstill.
