Galamsey Report: Gabby sues Frimpong-Boateng for GH¢10million
A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has dragged former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, to court over defamation.
The suit follows a 2021 galamsey report by Professor Frimpong-Boateng in which he accused Mr Otchere-Darko of interfering in his work as chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng claimed that Mr Otchere-Darko defended a company that destroyed the environment at a time an embargo had been placed on mining activities.
But Mr Otchere-Darko, a relative to President Nana Akufo-Addo and a private legal practitioner, refuted the claims.
Mr Otchere-Darko has therefore taken the matter to court to seek redress.
He is seeking “The sum of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHC10,000,000.00) as General Damages including Aggravated and/or Exemplary Damages for Defamation for libel”.
He also wants the Accra High Court to grant an order for a perpetual injunction to restrain Prof Frimpong-Boateng, “whether by himself, his servants, agents or assigns from repeating similar or other defamatory words” against him (Gabby).
