GAF recruitment: Five people collapse at Kumasi centre
About five people reportedly collapsed during the current military recruitment exercise taking place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Reports suggest that one person is in critical condition and is receiving medical care at the Emena Hospital located in the Oforikrom Municipality, while four others are being treated at the Ashanti South Government Hospital.
To prevent additional casualties, National Security officials have coordinated with the Ghana Fire Service to supply water for the recruits.
Furthermore, some applicants have been instructed to return on Thursday and Friday to alleviate overcrowding and avert a possible stampede.
This comes after the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed that six individuals had died as a result of a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a comparable recruitment exercise.
According to military sources, 28 individuals were transported to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment, of whom six were declared dead, five are in the ICU, and 12 others remain in relatively critical condition.
The stampedes in both regions have been linked to overcrowding and chaotic situations as thousands of young Ghanaians rushed to secure enlistment in the Ghana Armed Forces amidst the country’s escalating unemployment issues.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended its ongoing military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra until further notice.
