Ga Traditional Council condemns Homowo clashes

The Ga Traditional Council has strongly condemned the violent clashes that erupted over the weekend in Omanjor and Sowutuom during the celebration of this year’s Homowo Festival.

The disturbances led to the loss of lives and left several others injured.

In a statement signed by Registrar Evelyn Amewotse, the Council expressed its shock and dismay at the violence, calling the incidents both unfortunate and unacceptable.

“We strongly condemn these attacks that resulted in deaths and multiple injuries, such acts of violence undermine the very essence of the Homowo Festival, which is a time for unity, peace, and the celebration of the resilience of the Ga people,” the statement said.

The Council extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured. It emphasized the need to preserve the dignity and cultural significance of the Homowo Festival.

The Ga Traditional Council also called on the Accra Regional Police Command to take immediate steps to restore calm in the affected areas and ensure that those responsible for what it described as a “heinous crime” are brought to justice without delay.

His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, and the entire Council reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability within the Ga State, urging all citizens to uphold the values of tolerance, respect, and communal harmony.
