A driver escaped death after a fully loaded fuel tanker burst into flames near Suhum on the Kumasi-Accra highway.
The tanker caught fire due to an alleged mechanical fault, starting from the front and spreading to the back.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded to the fire, preventing the tanker from exploding.
Despite their efforts to contain the fire, significant damage had occurred due to the intensity of the flames.
No casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
This is the fourth of such incident in the past 12 months.
In October 2023, a driver and his mate escaped unhurt after another fuel tanker transporting 54,000 litres of diesel from Tema to the Western Region caught fire on the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway.
The truck, with registration number GR-3583-20, was almost at its destination when the driver and mate saw flames under it, which affected the brakes while descending a hill.

The tanker was slightly affected by minor leakages but the whole of the front portion of the truck (head) got burnt.
In July 2023, three fuel tankers were partially burnt in a fire incident at the Tema tank yard in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Tema Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Officer, D03 Ebenezer Yenzu, one of the vehicles affected was a 54,000-litre tanker that reportedly contained fuel at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
In May 2023, another fuel tanker caught fire after crashing while descending the Mamfe Akuapem mountains towards the Adawso direction in the Eastern region.
According to an eyewitness, the situation was serious as the tanker exploded multiple times.
He said the entire stretch of road was engulfed in flames, so vehicles plying the road could not cross, creating gridlock.
During a search, The driver was found lying motionless in the nearby bush.
He was rushed to Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital by the Police but pronounced dead on arrival.
