Friends of murdered Ofankor resident storm court
The family and friends of the late Benjamin Okyere, the musician who was killed by his landlord at Ofankor in Accra, have stormed the court to demand justice for him.
The group besieged the Abeka District Court Monday, June 8, clad in red bands as well as red and black attire.
According to them, the suspect must be killed in the same fashion the late Benjamin man was murdered.
They were angered when they saw the suspect being driven to the court in an air-conditioned vehicle.
The court has adjourned the case to June 22, 2020.
Starr FM reported that the suspect, Victor Stephen Nana Kankam, was whisked away immediately after the prosecutors told the court investigations were still ongoing.
Mr. Kankam allegedly shot and killed his tenant, Benjamin Okyere, after the deceased reportedly failed to vacate an apartment that was rented out to him upon the expiration of their tenancy agreement.
According to the police, the deceased was rushed to the police station with multiple injuries. He was, however, rushed to the Police Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Ofankor District Commander, DSP George Asare, who visited the crime scene with his team, said they saw a pool of blood at the entrance of the deceased’s apartment.
Four spent shells were retrieved at the scene. Upon further checks in the suspect’s room, the police retrieved two pump action guns loaded with seven and eight rounds of cartridges each.
Some 32 live cartridges were also retrieved from the suspect’s room.
But the police have said that the suspect acquired his weapons legally.
