Free SHS is the heritage of the Ghanaian child – Oppong Nkrumah
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that free Senior High School (SHS) policy is a heritage of the Ghanaian child.
The sector minister asserts the policy has nothing to do with the background of the child or parent neither does it have anything to do with the financial status of the guardian.
Oppong Nkrumah said during a media briefing Wednesday morning.
He noted “The government view at this point is that, the free SHS is the heritage of the Ghanaian child. It is not something that is being given necessarily to the poor parent today. It has nothing to do with the financial status of the parent. ”
“Once you are a Ghanaian child, the state has a responsibility to ensure that you benefit from basic education which has now been defined to include senior high school education, ” he added.
He, however, noted if the government decides to review this position someday, it wil do so but for now, every Ghanaian child must benefit from this program.
The free SHS policy is a government’s initiative introduced by President Akufo-Addo in September 2017.
The policy had been a major campaign policy to the election of the President in 2016.
