Four new cases recorded, bringing Ghana’s coronavirus count to 136

Four more people have tested positive to the deadly coronavirus, bringing the number of infections in Ghana to 136.

The Ghana Health Service’ Disease Surveillance Department reported that the four new cases were confirmed within the general population.

The health authorities said the new patients had since been isolated and contact tracing would be initiated for the new cases.

The update also indicated that as of March 27, 2020, a total of 57 cases, including three deaths, had been confirmed from the regular surveillance systems.

Three people have succumbed to the disease in Ghana, with the GHS stating that they had underlying chronic medical conditions.

All the other 54 cases are reportedly well;  14 are being managed at home and the rest are said to be responding well to treatment.

Majority of the confirmed cases are Ghanaians, who returned home from affected countries. Seven are of other nationals, namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (UK).

In all, 78 people under mandatory quarantine tested positive for the disease.

Regarding contact tracing, 1,006 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.

Out of these, 204 have completed the 14 days mandatory follow up.
