Four people lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Christmas Eve at Twifo Ntafrewaso along the Cape Coast–Twifo Praso road.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said the Twifo Praso Fire Station received a distress call at about 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, reporting a serious vehicular accident at the location.
A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team discovered that a Hyundai Getz with registration number GW 7715-25, which was operating as a commercial vehicle, had veered off the road and crashed into a tree in a nearby bush while travelling from Twifo Mampong towards Twifo Praso.
DOII Hudu explained that three occupants were trapped in the wreckage.
They were carefully rescued by the fire crew and rushed to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
He added that before the arrival of the rescue team, one other victim had been assisted by members of the public and taken to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital, where that person was also confirmed dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was speeding while navigating a curve during a rainy afternoon, which caused the vehicle to lose control.
The impact left the vehicle completely wrecked.
DOII Hudu noted that the incident highlights ongoing concerns about speeding and road safety, especially during festive seasons when traffic volumes are high.
