A tragic accident occurred at the Asukawkaw Bridge in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti region, resulting in the loss of four lives and multiple injuries.
The collision involved an Urvan bus with registration number VR 156-12 and a Toyota vehicle belonging to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The Urvan bus, carrying passengers from the Dambai market to Akatsi, collided with the GSS vehicle, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Bimbila.
The accident occurred around 4 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Rescue teams promptly responded, successfully extricating those trapped in the wreckage.
Sadly, the Urvan driver and three passengers lost their lives, while the injured were transported to Worawora government hospital for medical treatment.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kennedy Frimpong confirmed the incident and stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
The Asukawkaw Bridge has been the site of previous accidents, prompting concerns about road safety.
Residents and commuters have urged authorities to improve safety measures on the bridge, but no action has been taken so far. Drivers are advised to be cautious, especially when approaching the bridge, to prevent such tragic incidents.
