The Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that the former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA) and other top officials paid a Member of Parliament (MP) to stop the publication of the ghost names scandal.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine said his office has obtained evidence of financial irregularities at the scheme after questioning eight individuals.
He said they discovered payments to vendors and individuals in an attempt to cover up the alleged corruption.
“With the National Service scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated, and a good number of them have started singing. Indeed, we now have evidence of payments that were made into the accounts of the top executives of the service by vendors, private vendors, and staff of the scheme.

“We also have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the National Service Scheme and others paid a Ghanaian MP to kill the story in the media and to defend them. Now, this is a developing story, and more of it will come out very soon,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General added that investigations into the case were progressing well and will be concluded in April 2025.
This comes after the government said it had uncovered a significant discrepancy in the National Service payroll, revealing 81,885 suspected ghost names.
This figure represents the difference between the actual number of active personnel and the payroll data submitted by the previous management of the NSA.
According to the findings, there are currently 98,145 active service personnel, a stark contrast to the 180,030 names presented for allowance payment in 2024.
