Former NPA CEO, three others under investigation for alleged GH¢1.3bn embezzlement
The Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and three others are under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over an alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the authority.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that his office is probing suspected corruption and related offences linked to misappropriated funds from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF). The UPPF is a financial mechanism designed to stabilize petroleum prices across the country.
According to Agyebeng, the investigation is focused on four key individuals: Jacob Amoah, Coordinator of the UPPF; Wendy Ashong Newman; Freda Tandoh; and former NPA Chief Executive Officer Mustapha Abdul-Hamid.

“The OSP has commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding an alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
The investigation primarily targets the following persons: UPPF Coordinator Jacob Amoah, NPA staff members Wendy Ashong Newman and Freda Tandoh, and former NPA CEO Mustapha Abdul-Hamid,” Agyebeng stated.

Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who served as NPA CEO from 2021 to early 2024, was responsible for overseeing petroleum product pricing regulations, fuel quality standards, and the management of the UPPF during his tenure.
The OSP’s inquiry aims to uncover any wrongdoing and ensure accountability in the handling of public funds.
