The 53-year-old succumbed to a heart condition after battling the ailment in recent months.

Osei’s illustrious career began with Okwawu United, but at Asante Kotoko, he cemented his status as one of Ghana’s finest midfielders. His exceptional performances earned him a move to Europe, where he represented Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05 in the German Bundesliga.

Transitioning to coaching after playing, Osei made significant contributions to Ghanaian football. He managed Asante Kotoko and other Premier League clubs such as Liberty Professionals and Bibiani Goldstars, where he served until he travelled abroad last year. His impact extended to the national level, where he was assistant coach of the Black Meteors (U23) for five years.

Asante Kotoko, in an emotional tribute on X, said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former player and coach Michael Osei, having sadly suffered with a heart condition in recent months. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and colleagues. Rest in peace, Michael.”

Tributes continue to pour in from fans, players, and the football fraternity, all united in celebrating his immense contributions to the game.
