Former IGP laid to rest
Hundreds of mourners gathered at the forecourt of the State House to bid farewell to former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) H.E. James Y.A. Kwofie, who was laid to rest on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Mr. Kwofie, who was over 90 years old, had been battling illnesses for years, including dementia, before his passing on May 2, 2024.
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, government officials, and personnel from the security services were in attendance to pay their last respects to the late IGP, who served from January 1, 1990, to September 30, 1996.
He also served as a Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) during his distinguished public service career.
The solemn ceremony was led by the Ghana Police Service, honouring Mr. Kwofie’s legacy and dedication to the nation.
He was succeeded by Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri, who also passed away in February 2023. Mr. Nanfuri was the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area, holding the title Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II.
The funeral service celebrated Mr. Kwofie’s life and contributions to Ghana’s security and development, as mourners paid tribute to his memory and legacy.
