Former First Lady cuts sod for construction of girls’ dormitory-block at Wesley Grammar School

Former First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern Girls’ Dormitory Block at Wesley Grammar School, situated in Dansoman, Accra.

The sod-cutting ceremony took place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, during a barbecue fun-day event organised by the old students of Wesley Grammar School (WESGOSA) as part of activities towards the celebration of their 70th anniversary in March 2026.

Before cutting the sod, H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, a proud alumnus of the 1969 year group, encouraged all alumni to consistently contribute to the success of Wesley Grammar School.

“This project represents our shared commitment to providing young girls with a safe and supportive environment to learn, grow, and thrive.

“As an alumna, it brings me great joy to contribute to the continued development of our beloved school. Together, we can build an institution of excellence that inspires future generations.

“As we look ahead to Wesley Grammar’s 70th Anniversary in March 2026, may this new project serve as a symbol of hope, opportunity, and progress for all WESGOSANS,” she noted.

The former First Lady also expressed deep appreciation to the executives of the Wesley Grammar Old Students Association (WESGOSA) and the school’s management for their efforts in mobilising alumni to support the institution in various capacities.

The ceremony was graced by the management of the school, headed by Mrs. Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson; the clergy, led by Very Rev. Titus Awotwi Pratt, former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana and a member of the 1967 year group; and old students of Wesley Grammar School.

WESGOSA SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES FOR THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY

According to the Planning Committee for the anniversary, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, there would be a float through some principal streets of Accra and a Homecoming event at the school.

There would be a public lecture and a dinner on Friday, March 13, 2026, and that would be a ticketing event.

The main anniversary celebration will be on March 14, 2026, at the school premises, and the Special Guest of Honour is H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, with Sunday, March 16, 2026, being the thanksgiving day.
