Football clubs must consider insurance cover against unforeseen circumstances – Inter Allies CEO
Ghana Premier League clubs are among various establishments hardly hit financially following the cancellation of the 2019/2020 football season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The football season was halted in March this year and later cancelled by the GFA at an executive meeting on June 30. The outcome of the decision has caused various clubs adopting different strategies to survive.
In an interview with Joy Sports, the Chief Executive for Premier League side Inter Allies, Eric Delali Senaye, advised Ghanaian clubs to learn from the Covid-19 pandemic and take insurance cover against future unforeseen circumstances.
“I’m very much of the view that, after this crisis, clubs should take steps to take insurance cover against unforeseen circumstances like this,” he suggested.
“Inasmuch, as we pray against anything happening again, it is important we take certain steps so that if it does happen again, we can fall on such for protection.
“I think the way to go is to insure against a future occurrence of unforeseen situations like this.
“It will help all of us, and also give us some security,” Senaye noted.
The football administrator also called for unity within the football community.
“Some lessons would be learnt out of this COVID-19. Football clubs would have to prepare and move forward as a unit,” he added.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to receive a response on a proposal sent to the government for a share of a stimulus package set aside for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) affected by the pandemic.
However,
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) last week announced that it had reached a consensus to enroll players in the Women’s Premier League on the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Programme.
The programme will see 500 beneficiaries made up of 30 registered players each from the 16 Women’s Premier League clubs totaling 480 and 20 other persons in the league, receiving GH¢500 as monthly allowance for the next six months, beginning from July 2020.
