Food suppliers picket overnight at National Food Buffer Stock premises

Members of the National Food Suppliers Association(NAFSA) spent the night on the premises of the National Food Buffer Stock Company(NAFCO) to demand payment for food supplied to the company.

According to the suppliers, NAFCO owes them over two years of arrears and all attempts to recoup monies owed to them proved futile.

The suppliers who came from all across the country on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, to further press home their grievances have insisted that they will continue to picket the premises until their demands are met.

The spokesperson for the Association, Kweku Amedume, said the delayed payment has brought untold hardship on their members.

“We no longer have peace in our homes. Our homes have been taken over by creditors, and we seem to have found a place here. As you can see, most of them are sleeping like they’ve never slept before. This shows the kind of trauma they go through in their own beds.

“The government should turn its attention to these people. They are really going through a lot. For over two years, the painful thing is that when the government got the money, NAFCO decided to work with a different set of people,” he lamented.

He stressed that they will continue to sleep at NAFCO till the government pays them all the money in arrears.

“The only solution is for us to get our money. Otherwise, we will continue to be here,” he said.

The Buffer Stock Company is yet to respond to this case.
