Five Rest Stops To Be Built To Combat Driver Fatigue And Reduce Road Accidents – NRSA
In an effort to mitigate driver fatigue-related accidents, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has joined forces with the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to establish five rest stops along highways throughout the country.
The initiative aims to provide motorists with suitable locations to take periodic rests during long journeys, ensuring they remain alert and focused on the road.
As of now, three rest stops are already under construction, while the remaining two are expected to be completed in the near future, the NRSA’s Public Relations Officer, Pearl Adusu Sateckla, revealed.
“There are a lot of interventions, and together with the Ghana Highway Authority, we are putting up rest stops. Currently, the Highways Authority has planned about five rest stops across the country so that drivers can take a rest after driving for more than four hours,” she said to Accra-based Citi FM monitored by theghanareport.com.
This comes after an accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Accra-Cape Coast highway in the Central Region that claimed 16 lives and left 40 badly injured.
Road accidents have been a troubling issue in Ghana, with driver fatigue and tiredness often cited as major contributing factors.
