Five Mpraeso SHS students remanded for gang rape

Five students who allegedly raped a female student at Mpraeso Senior High School(SHS) have been remanded for 10 days into police custody.

Initially, they were discharged by the Nkawkaw District Court in the Eastern region on Thursday, October 17 but re-arrested shortly after by the police to face charges.

The court presided over by His Worship Isaac Agyei, discharged them due to discrepancies in the police’s charge sheet and the case docket.

The incident which occurred on the Mpreaso Senior High School campus on Sunday, October 13, 2024, sent shockwaves through the community.

Meanwhile, a massive manhunt is underway in Kwahu South for the three other students from Mpraeso Senior High School, accused of participating in the alleged gang rape.

The trio is part of a group of eight suspects implicated in the incident.

The school management has pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

The victim, sharing her harrowing experience, recounted how she was approached by a male student while walking with a friend to buy food from the school’s canteen.

As the male student got closer, seven others joined, and her friend left.

According to her, she was not aware of the conversation between the suspects and her friend before departing.

She explained that subsequently, the eight students forcibly assaulted her sexually.

The victim has undergone medical checks and is seeking justice, stating, “I want the suspects to face the full rigour of the law.”

The headmaster of Mpreaso SHS, James Affadu, confirmed the incident and announced that the disciplinary committee had dismissed all eight suspects involved in the matter.
