First case of Mpox confirmed in Western North Region

The Akontombra District in the Western North Region has recorded the first case of Mpox, raising concerns within the community.

According to Joseph Appiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), health officials have identified seven individuals showing symptoms associated with Mpox, and laboratory tests have confirmed one positive result.

Mr. Appiah disclosed this information during a meeting with assembly members in Akontombra, where he called on residents to stay alert and prioritise their health.

He stressed the importance of taking the situation seriously and working together to prevent the disease from spreading further.

Mpox is a contagious viral infection that can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated object.

Its symptoms include fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash that typically spreads across the body.

In light of the confirmed case, the District Health Directorate is taking proactive measures to manage the situation. These measures include active surveillance, public education campaigns, and the isolation of confirmed cases when necessary.

Residents are encouraged to maintain good hygiene practices, minimise unnecessary physical contact, and promptly report any suspected cases.

The DCE has reassured the community that the health team is dedicated to preventing the further spread of the disease.

He highlighted that early detection and timely medical intervention are crucial for managing Mpox outbreaks.

As the situation develops, residents are urged to remain vigilant and seek medical help without delay if they notice any unusual symptoms.

The District Health Directorate will soon release a detailed update regarding the overall health situation in the district, which will include preventive measures and readiness strategies currently in place.
