Firefighters battle intense blaze at Flour Mills Ghana in Tema
Firefighters are battling a major blaze that broke out early Wednesday morning at the production section of Flour Mills Ghana Limited in Tema, formerly known as the GHAPOHA yard.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire was reported at 8:45 a.m. on May 21, 2025.
The flames, which began on the third floor of the facility, were quickly contained and have since been restricted to the fifth floor, thanks to the swift action by firefighting teams from multiple stations in the Tema Region.
Currently, four fire engines and a Turn Table Ladder from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Tema Metro, Newtown, and Industrial Fire Stations are on-site, working tirelessly to control the situation.
Firefighters are moving from floor to floor to extinguish remaining flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, GNFS assured the public that rigorous efforts were ongoing to fully extinguish the fire and bring the situation under control.
As of now, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong is at the scene alongside the Tema and Greater Accra Regional Fire Commanders, assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating ongoing efforts.
“We are doing everything possible to contain and extinguish the fire. Our teams are moving carefully through each level to ensure no hidden flames remain,” said a senior fire officer at the site.
The GNFS has urged the public to stay clear of the area while emergency personnel work to manage the incident.
