Emergency response efforts took an unexpected turn in Buipe, in the Savannah Region, when a fire tender responding to a blaze was involved in an accident at the scene, leaving firefighters injured and the fire temporarily unchecked.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. A video circulating online shows the fire tender overturned as shocked residents looked on.
Residents who rushed to the scene helped turn the vehicle back onto its wheels, while the crew on board was quickly transported to the Buipe Government Hospital for medical treatment.
With the fire tender disabled, the blaze continued to burn, forcing residents to struggle to control the situation until additional help arrived.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) were also present, coordinating emergency response efforts and providing support to affected residents.
