Three buildings are completely destroyed after a fire suspected to be a gas explosion. It occurred at the Anloga market in Kumasi.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27.
At the time of the fire, the occupants of the buildings were reportedly away for their usual activities.
Firefighters arrived at the scene, preventing the blaze from spreading to other structures.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), initial analysis suggests the gas explosion may have been the cause.
Fire service officials have also refuted claims from residents regarding a delayed response, asserting that they arrived promptly after receiving the distress call.
This incident at Anloga market adds to the number of fire outbreaks recorded by the GNFS.
In the first half of 2023, the GNFS reported 3,819 fire outbreaks, as compared to 3,678 recorded around the same period in 2022.
This shows an approximately 3.8% increase in fire outbreaks in the country.
