Over 20 containers have been gutted by fire around the Datus Complex School, close to the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region.
The Operations Officer of the Budumburam Fire Station, ADO 1 Charles Naam-Were, speaking to the media, said the fire started around 1 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
It engulfed several shops nearby and destroyed all their contents.
He said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, but the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had launched investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, some shop owners who have lost their properties expressed shock over the incident and alleged that the fire was started by human error.
It is the second incident within three days, as a fire also destroyed 15 structures on the premises of Achimota School on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Properties such as television sets, refrigerators, cars and other items were destroyed due to the fire outbreak.
In an interview, some of the affected residents explained the adverse impact of the inferno and called for support.
In a similar incident, about 50 shops were razed down by an inferno in some parts of the Dome market in Accra.
The incident in the late hours of Sunday, January 7, 2024, affected shops and other structures.
A member of the Public Relations Department at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters, ADOII Alex Nartey, revealed that the cause of the fire was unknown and was under investigation.
