Some students of the Wa Senior High Technical School have been left stranded after a fire gutted parts of their main girls’ dormitory block.
The fire started around 8 pm on Sunday, January 22.
The inferno destroyed five rooms and the belongings of the girls in one of the story dormitory blocks.
It took the intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS) to bring the disaster under control, thereby preventing the fire from destroying an entire building.
Iddrisu Imran, the Assistant Divisional Fire Officer who led the team to the scene said the cause of the fire is not immediately known.
“The top floor of about five rooms was affected. The fire started burning before we were called. We are trying our best to quench the fire. There are no casualties, some of them were shocked and have been sent to the nearest health facility,” he stated.
He added that the GNFS had begun investigations into the disaster that left the over 200 girls of the school stranded.
