In a brave effort, officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) rescued a middle-aged man who climbed to the top of a telecommunications mast at the Community 16 Timber Market.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the service said a team from their Kasapreko station responded to the emergency on Monday, October 21, 2024.

After persuasion, some firefighters climbed the mast and safely brought the man down.

“Victim has been successfully rescued by the crew and handed over to the Ambulance Service. Victim is being transported to LEKMA Hospital for further examination,” the GNFS said.

Meanwhile, it is unclear why the man climbed the mast.

In August 2024, the fire officers successfully rescued another man in Ashaiman Lebanon after he climbed a high-tension pole.

The man was identified as Alfred Agoma, who reportedly climbed the pole in an attempt to commit suicide as a result of his battle with kidney cancer.

The dramatic incident was sparked by Agoma’s inability to afford the necessary medical treatment, leaving him with feelings of hopelessness.

Concerned residents quickly alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from the police, fire service officers, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The emergency responders worked together to bring Agoma down safely from the pole, preventing a tragic outcome.
