A devastating fire outbreak at Lartebiokorshie, Accra, has destroyed seven houses and injured one firefighter.
According to Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Rashid Nisawu, the fire started at 4:15 pm on Tuesday, September 9, with emergency services receiving their first call right away.
“The Service responded swiftly, dispatching the first fire tender just one minute later. By 4:24 pm, the first fire engine was on the scene,” Officer Nisawu explained.
“At the moment, we have been able to confine the fire. We currently have about six fire engines working to contain the blaze,” he added, urging residents to remain calm.
“There should not be any panic. We want to assure everybody that they should not panic.”
However, Officer Nisawu highlighted a significant challenge faced by the fire service due to insufficient water supply in the area.
“We have to commute to distant places for water. We also called the police to assist us in managing the crowd and ensuring safety,” he said. “
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no fatalities have been reported.
One firefighter and a civilian were treated for injuries by the Ambulance Service team. Emergency responders remain active on the scene as community members begin to assess the extent of the damage.
