A fire outbreak has destroyed three structures at Eno Mirekua, close to the Abeka market in Accra.

The fire razed a popular pub and two beauty parlours beside it on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Recounting the incident, an eyewitness said the outbreak started around 6 am when the pub was yet to open for the day.

“I quickly called a few guys around to try and put the fire out. We later called the Fire Service number for support. They start work around 12 p.m. every day and close around 10 p.m.,” he said.

He added, “I think it was due to an electrical fault”.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) team dispatched to the fire scene, they had difficulties dousing the flames after they arrived a few minutes after the distress.

Exposed electrical wires in the pub made it difficult to tackle the fire.

“We had a call around 0625 hours this morning, and within one minute, we were dispatched. We got here around 0631 hours. When we arrived, we realized that the situation was a little difficult because of the strong electricity presence. So we called on the ECG to turn off the power in the area before we could do anything to salvage the situation,” ADO1 Helegbe said.

He said that despite the exposed electrical wires, the exact cause of the outbreak can only be ascertained after a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, the owner of one of the beauty parlours told the media that all her equipment, including hair dryers, was burnt.

This comes after another outbreak destroyed several wooden structures along the railway line near the Odaw drain at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra on June 5, 2024.

The fire ravaged the entire area located under a GRIDCo high-voltage transmission line.
