A fire outbreak at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools in Accra has destroyed several ballot boxes.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, has sent shockwaves through the community.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze which began around 1:40 a.m., originated in the school’s library which had been temporarily converted into a storage area for ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency in the December 7 polls.

Alex King Nartey, the Fire Service’s PRO, said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

According to reports, additional ballot papers were found burnt outside the school premises after the fire.

The discovery has fuelled speculation about the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Meanwhile, the operations commander and his team have made progress to extinguish the fire.

The personnel have also salvaged adjoining buildings to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the school.
