A devastating fire outbreak at the Labone Senior High School in Accra on Sunday afternoon affected three girls’ dormitories.
The blaze ignited while students were occupied with their afternoon prep sessions, damaging three of the six dormitories on campus. One building was completely lost, while the other two sustained partial damage.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service acted quickly, working diligently to mitigate the flames and prevent further destruction.
In a release regarding the incident, the Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, Mr. Ado Alex King Nartey, stated that they received an alert about the fire and dispatched a team to the location promptly at 1PM.
“When we arrived, we discovered that the girls’ dormitory—specifically the new building—was on fire. Out of the six dormitories on the top floor, three were affected; one was completely destroyed, while the other two sustained partial damage,” he stated.
Mr. Nartey added that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but an investigation will be conducted to uncover the details.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and the students displaced by the incident have been temporarily relocated to the school’s assembly hall for refuge.
“By the God’s grace, all the students are safe and accounted for,” he added.
