Fire destroys KNUST Library

Fire has destroyed the third floor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Prempeh II Library due to an electrical socket malfunction.

Fortunately, firefighters quickly reported to the scene and extinguished the flames, while students in the library were evacuated from the premises.

Calm has been restored, and students have returned to their studies, preparing for the end-of-semester examinations, starting today, Monday, August 5.

Meanwhile, the KNUST Student Representative Council (SRC) President-Elect, Kane Nana Francis, addressed the students, emphasizing safety measures during a fire outbreak.

He also cautioned students to avoid overloading electrical sockets.

The student leader further urged his colleagues to remain calm and avoid panic in such situations.

This incident comes just 10 days after a fire affected the Father Hostel accommodation facility, impacting 22 students and three teaching assistants.

The outgoing SRC administration provided relief items and temporary accommodation for the victims.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that incident, and the university community was relieved that the situation was brought under control quickly.
