Fire has ravaged the girls’ dormitory at Jacobu Senior High Technical School in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, leaving students in despair just days into their final exams.
The incident happened on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
The students explained that they were in a state of hopelessness since all their academic materials had been destroyed by the fire.
“We are in a state of shock and devastation,” said a student who lost her belongings in the fire.
“Our educational materials, practical tools, equipment, clothes, and personal items are all gone. It’s like our future has been reduced to ashes,” a student lamented.
The fire, which consumed the entire dormitory, has raised concerns about the students’ preparedness for their upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“The loss of our practical tools is particularly worrying,” said another student. “We needed them to prepare for our exams, and now they’re gone. We don’t know how we’ll cope”.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are investigating the incident.
“We are working to determine the cause of the fire and provide support to the affected students,” said a school official. “We appeal to the public to help us recover from this tragic event and ensure the students can continue their education.”
The affected students are appealing for support to help them recover from this devastating event.
“We need help to replace our lost items and continue our education,” said a student. “We’re counting on the support of the public to help us through this difficult time.”
The school and local authorities are working together to provide temporary accommodations and support to the affected students.
