A devastating fire has ravaged shops, residential homes, and a drinking spot at Teshie Mobil, near the Shell Filling Station.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire, which destroyed several properties, started around 6:30 am and is believed to have originated from the burning of a car tyre by a resident.
The blaze quickly spread, engulfing the drinking spot before spreading to neighbouring buildings, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Efforts were made to rescue individuals trapped in the burning structures, with one resident requiring medical attention due to smoke inhalation.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded to the emergency, dispatching three fire engines to the scene to battle the flames.
Despite their efforts, the fire caused significant damage, leaving many residents distraught.
The Deputy Director of Operations of the GNFS, Kweku Forson, stated that their team managed to bring the fire under control using various firefighting equipment, including an armed forces vehicle.
Despite the initial hostility towards firefighters from victims who believed help arrived late, calm was eventually restored.
Mr Forson urged the public not to attack firefighters responding to emergencies, as they are dedicated to serving and protecting the community.
“The victims initially were hostile to us because they thought we didn’t come early, but there’s no fire station here. The nearest fire stations here is around Trade Fair and Nungua. But later on, they were able to calm down, and we did our work,” he spoke to Accra-based Citi News.
Meanwhile, investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
