A fire outbreak has destroyed four shops at the Koforidua Central Market in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 7, 2024, around 5:50 pm.
The Eastern Regional Sub-station of the Ghana National Fire Service in a statement, explained that out of the four shops that went up in flames, two were destroyed completely.
Some of the items destroyed include; plastic cups, bowls and spoons, disposable packs, toilet paper, and polythene bags.
According to the GNFS, the office received a distress call at about 5:55 pm and swiftly moved to the scene.
Upon arrival at 6:10 pm, the team had to use buckets of water provided by nearby residents to douse the raging inferno at the market due to the failure of their pumps.
The firefighters suspected electrical fault could have been the cause of the fire outbreak.
The fire was extinguished at 6:45 pm, emphasizing the indispensable role of community assistance in firefighting endeavours.
Cases of fire outbreaks at markets, homes, schools, and other places continue to erupt.
It will be recalled that recently, a devastating house fire ravaged an eleven-room house to ashes and left more than 25 people homeless in Obuasi Tutuka Central in the Obuasi Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti Region.
The fire, which destroyed several properties, started around 10:00 am on Monday, April 1, 2024, and quickly spread throughout the house, destroying items including motorbikes, fridges, TV sets, cash, clothes, and personal belongings of the residents.
Similarly, a fire outbreak recently razed over 180 container shops at the Race Course Market in the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

According to the affected traders, the fire destroyed wares worth millions of Ghana cedis.
