A devastating fire has destroyed the 6-unit classroom block of the Dormaa Akwamu Methodist Basic School, situated in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region.
The unfortunate incident, which occurred during the Christmas vacation, has displaced over 218 pupils.
The blaze destroyed books, furniture, and other educational materials.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
With school in session nationwide, management and students are appealing to the government and the public to aid in restoring the school’s structure.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, 2024, sent shockwaves through the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze, which began around 1:40 a.m., originated in the school’s library, which had been temporarily converted into a storage area for ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency in the December 7 polls.
Investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
