Finance Ministry petitioned to provide details of alleged GH¢2.75bn procurement savings

The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has petitioned the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to provide details on the over GH¢2bn reportedly saved through the review of sole-sourced and restricted tender contracts.

The group made up of 20 Civil Society platforms argues that doing this will aid in the principle of transparency and accountability in governance.

The request comes on the back of the 2019 mid-year budget review presented by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta which suggested that some GH¢ 2.75 billion had been saved through thorough scrutiny of sole-sourced contracts as well as contracts awarded through restrictive tendering.

The Executive Secretary of GACC, Beauty Emefa Narteh in a signed petition is demanding, on behalf of the civil society groups, the full list of contracts in which government saved such sums of money.

“It is imperative for these contracts to be made public to aid an appreciation of Government’s commitment to value for money and the protection of the public purse,” extracts of the petition available to The Ghana Report read.
