Finance Ministry gives clearance for recruitment of nearly 17,000 teachers
The Ministry of Finance has approved the recruitment of nearly 17,000 newly-trained teachers by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
This was contained in a statement from the ministry on Friday, 19 November 2021.
“Financial clearance is hereby granted to the Hon. Minister of Education to enable the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to recruit sixteen thousand, eight hundred and fifty (16,850) newly trained teachers for the service,” a statement signed by the Deputy Minister Abena Osei-Asare said.
It further directed that GES ensures that the newly trained teachers have their documents processed in time and placed on the mechanized payroll early enough to enable the Controller and Accountant-General Department to effect payment of their salaries.
“The Controller and Accountant-General is requested to effect the payment of salaries of the newly trained teachers and make appropriate deductions of Social Security and Income Tax to SSNIT and the Domestic Tax Division of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) respectively,” it added.
The government recently gave clearance for the recruitment of personnel into the various security agencies.
The Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prison Service and Ghana Police Service have all begun processes of recruitment.
This comes on the back of promises by the Akufo-Addo government to create more jobs to help the teeming youth.
On July 21, 2021, the president promised one million jobs for Ghanaians before exiting office in 2024.
The jobs are expected to be created under the Ghana COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalization of Enterprises Support (Ghana CARES) programme.
The president indicated that the government is determined to pursue the agenda for job creation to ensure that more opportunities are given to “our youth to nurture their talents for the development of our country.”
