The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Gyamfi, says the fight against small scale mining (galamsey) is a scam.
According to him, the razzmatazz around the campaign was a ploy by the Nana Addo-led government to get party bigwigs into the mining space.
“The whole campaign, loss of lives, properties and others was a way to get legal small-scale miners out of business so NPP bigwigs can take over the mining space,” he said in an interview with Citi FM monitored by theghanareport.com.
Mr Gyamfi’s frustration comes on the back of some missing seized excavators and a leaked video where the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng and Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Horace Ekow Ewusi are allegedly making some damning plans on how to take over mining sites.

He is, therefore, demanding the dismissal of the sector minister.
“I am so disappointed…is that how low we have sunk as a country. We handed over the fight against galamsey to you (Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng) and this is what you do? Top government officials; so, were the allowances not enough that you had to sell excavators? Why?”

According to him, the blame should be placed at the doorsteps of President Akufo-Addo because had he ‘cracked the whip’ when Charles Bissue’s case came up, it would have prevented others from also doing same.
“I blame the President because any responsible government would have dismissed Prof, We are calling for the immediate dismissal and arrest of Prof Frimpong Boateng. This video is an open and shut case.”
