Ghana is on the verge of losing the chance to host the first-leg of their decisive 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
The match scheduled for 25 March might be moved to a neighbouring African country due to the bad nature of the pitch at the Cape Coast Stadium.
According to reports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) filed a petition to FIFA last week to complain about the poor state of the stadium.
The petition was attached with pictures of the pitch at the Cape Coast Stadium sourced from the official Twitter handle of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
There have been complaints about the pitch in Cape Coast which was left in a terribly bad shape after it hosted the country’s 65th Independence Day parade on 6 March.
The state security services and other individuals spent several hours on the pitch in an organised parade to mark the day.
Even though officials of the National Sports Authority began work on the field last week, it looks like it will not be in good condition for the 25 March showdown.
With FIFA now concerned with the poor state of the pitch, the world football governing body is considering asking Ghana to move the first leg of the Nigeria tie out of the country.
However, there are also reports of the crucial clash being moved to the Kumasi Sports Stadium should the country get approval after its inspection by CAF.
A three-man CAF inspection team is expected to inspect the new venue to determine the fate of the country this week.
