The Alliance of Feminist CSOs has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to call the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako to order following his “unacceptable” comments about Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The group in a statement signed by the Executive Director, Alimatu Issahak on March 25, 2024, slammed the chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi for questioning Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s marital status and region of origin.

According to them, Chairman Wontumi’s comments are not only condemnable but also go further to confirm the stereotype against women especially those aspiring to greater heights in political leadership.

“Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has shown so far that leadership is about no other but competence and one’s ability to deliver service to one’s nation with the utmost integrity. A woman described as a distinguished scholar, a conscientious public servant, and a role model. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is known by many as a woman who embraces all regardless of one’s background.

“It is completely unacceptable that a whole professor of such great accomplishment who has served Ghana with utmost dedication and commitment in her entire adult life will be met with such baseless and demeaning attacks in a public space in her quest to further serve Ghana in a bigger capacity. A comment about the professor’s marital status and regional origin by chairman Wontumi is baseless and has no merit on her competence and her impactful track record,” excerpts of the AFCSO statement highlighted.

The AFCSOs further called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard Chairman Wontumi’s comments and treat them with all the contempt that they deserve.

The party chairman”s utterance about the NDC the running mate lady is a disgrace to his own party the NPP. This is not a good statement to come from a party chairman who wants good development of his country
