Fellow Ghanaians, go vote! – President Akufo-Addo rallies country

President Nana Akufo-Addo has rallied Ghanaians to eschew apathy as polls open in less than 16 hours.

Nana Akufo-Addo warned that the implications of stay away from voting is that  others get to choose leaders for the apathetic.

“It doesn’t cost anything to exercise your constitutional right to vote” he said in a televised address on national television.

Already the Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed that some 13,000 people failed to vote in the special voting exercise on December 1 organised for security services and media practitioners.

The president whose four-year tenure comes to a close is seeking re-election against a backdrop of the government’s social intervention programs, particularly free SHS.

He faces a familiar challenger, John Mahama, whom he defeated in 2016, making him a one-term president.

The president is keen to win decisively in order to avoid a run-off if he secures less than 50% plus 1.

At least two polls have projected him to win at the first time of asking while another research point to a run-off.

The president while rallying voters assured them of maximum security before and after the polls.

He expressed confidence that Ghana’s “ongest uninterrupted period of stable governance” would continue as the country goes to the polls tomorrow.
