Have you been a culprit and a victim of an unfortunate circumstance? Well, this was me in a recent incidence:
“School resumed from the Christmas break and as was expected, the semester exams were to continue. For the most part, my hands were tied in all kinds of activities during the holidays which meant that I was all over the place. So you can imagine how unprepared I was for the exams… but that wasn’t going to be an excuse… I was to take.
Even though I couldn’t whisk away the fear I knew everything I had done over the past weeks was important especially because of the timing, but here I was with hurtful feelings of regret.
At this point, I just admitted that the disappointment could have been avoided if I had been disciplined and stuck to the game plan.”
…let’s have a conversation about INDISCIPLINE.
Everyone has a lot to say about the catchy and over-flogged word Indiscipline. First, let us consider the meaning of the word discipline from which originates indiscipline; “Discipline is an attempt to improve the behaviour of (oneself or another) by training or rules.”– Collins Gem English Dictionary
Oftentimes, we hear complaints and grunts about how our society has been taken over by individuals who have no regard for the laws.
We point accusing fingers and call ourselves indiscipline for abusing open spaces and engaging in indiscreet defecation and urination; for the unplanned settlements and uncontrollable spring up of slams within our communities; for the poor drainage which is the causes e of the seasonal floods in our cities.
After the name-calling, we look on hoping that these problems born out of our actions would fix themselves. Fallacy!
Indiscipline is when you and I fail to stick to the standards we know would make things work.
It’s when we fail to sanction (reward or punish) ourselves to emphasis the appropriate behaviours.
It’s when we put off scheduled activities only to attend to so-called urgent and impromptu requests without a thought about the consequences of our decision on ourselves or others.
We fail to do what’s necessary of us at the very opportune time- that’s all it takes to be indiscipline– but I have decided to be different and you can too.
Now that you know, it’s your responsibility to pass it on. In the meantime, I sit waiting, with my legs crossed over my dashboard.
